Neighbors stand up against repeat thieves in Orange County

Posted:
ORANGE COUNTY -

Neighbors are joining together on social media in hopes of bringing awareness to what they call constant burglaries happening in the Vidor area.

Lawn mowers, tires, tools ATVs and copper wire are among the items victims say have been stolen from their homes and yards.

Kaley McClure recently purchased the Orange County house where she grew up, but said thieves are the reason she can't call it home.

McClure reached out to the Vidor community on Facebook to see if neighbors were experiencing the same hard luck and received a massive response.

Many of them claim they have reported thefts to law enforcement, but have not seen justice served.

"We really need to step up and have something done about it because this is not OK,” McClure said.

“This is your security, your privacy and it's not ok for somebody to take that away from you.”

An Orange County deputy said the investigations are on-going, but arrests cannot be made without more evidence. The deputy suggest taking pictures of any personal property with serial numbers in order to prove who owns the stolen property.

McClure said she will continue to spread the word in hopes of catching the thieves so she can put life back into the home her late father built.

"I'd like to build the house into something he would be proud of but I can't begin construction until I know that my tools aren't going to go missing or that they're not going to break or tear my siding off my house"
