Florida man arrested with 350 lbs of marijuana after Orange County chase, speeds reached 115 MPH

ORANGE COUNTY -

A man is in the Orange County jail after deputies found a large amount of marijuana in his van following a chase Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies were driving eastbound on Interstate 10 near Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in Orange around 12:30 p.m. when they saw the driver of a black passenger van fail to signal a lane change and abruptly exit the Interstate near Adams Bayou. The Deputies turned on their overhead lights and siren, but the driver refused to pull over.  The van accelerated to around 90 mph while on the eastbound service road. The van went onto N. 16th St. and then turned westbound on the IH-10 service road. The driver of the van continued without stopping and got back onto the Interstate heading west.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said speeds in the chase reached 115 mph.

As the van approached the area of the Interstate near the Womack overpass, other deputies were arriving in the area ahead of the van. When the driver of the van saw deputies ahead, he pulled the van over at the IH-10 and Hwy 62 exit.

The driver was the only one in the van.  He was taken into custody for Evading Arrest.

Once the man was detained, deputies found around 350 pounds of marijuana in the back of the van. The marijuana was wrapped in black garbage bags, several layers of plastic wrap, packaging tape, and aluminum foil.

The suspect, identified as Luis Cendejas, 30, of Fort Pierce, Florida, was taken to the Orange County Jail where he was booked for Evading Arrest, a State Jail Felony, and Possession of Marijuana, a 2nd Degree Felony.

Cendejas remains in custody awaiting arraignment.
