Raquel West takes Democratic nomination in runoff for 252nd District Court Judge

Raquel West clinched the Democratic nomination in the race for 252nd District Court Judge of Jefferson County Tuesday night.

Early voting numbers showed West ahead of her opponent with 56 percent of the vote by 10 p.m. Stella Morrison was her runoff opponent and by the same time Tuesday night had 43 percent of votes.

West moves forward to the November election to face off against Republican candidate Carolyn Wiedenfeld. Wiedenfeld moved on to the November election with no opponent in the May primary.

Layne Walker was the previous 252nd District Court Judge but decided not to run for reelection to pursue a business opportunity.
