SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) -Authorities have asked for the public's help after a cat was beaten, placed in a trash bag and left to die in Sulphur on Thursday morning.

Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats said the cat, a male orange tabby, had to be euthanized due to its severe injuries.

Coats said the cat was found in a white garbage bag around next to the front porch of a home on West Mimosa Street.

"It had been apparently hit in the head, possibly stabbed, soaked in bleach and placed in a tied-up bag," Coats said in a news release. "The homeowner said she heard a strange noise outside, like a cat in distress. When she went outside she (saw the) bag and something was moving in it. When she opened it she found the cat, which had been staying around her house."

Coats said an autopsy is being performed to determine the exact injuries to the animal.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sulphur Police at 337-527-4550.
