Former Nederland ISD coach/teacher charged with intoxication assault after crash forces officer to jump from bridge

A former Nederland Independent School District basketball coach and teacher is facing intoxication assault charges after the car she was driving slammed into a Missouri City police car that was parked on the side of the road. The officers had another car pulled over on a traffic stop at the time.

Police say Christie Diane Biggers, 46, lost control of her vehicle, and headed straight towards Officer Kenneth Lewis, 39. The rookie police officer then made a split second decision to jump 23 feet rather than risk being pinned.

Biggers coached the Nederland High School girls' basketball team in the late 1990's and also taught in the district.

Missouri City police released the dash cam video showing the moment Lewis jumped off a bridge when an incoming driver slammed into his patrol car.

Lewis was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital's trauma center where he is still recovering.

Biggers, now a PE teacher at Scalan Oaks Elementary, was arrested and charged with intoxication assault.
