UPDATE: Officials identify man who drowned in Village Creek

A Beaumont man drowned in Hardin County Thursday afternoon.

Officials have identified the victim as Nicholas Lee White, 20, of Beaumont.

A 911 dispatcher received a call around 4 p.m. Thursday from a person reporting a possible drowning at Village Creek.  Firefighters were among the first responders and began dragging the water.

Hardin County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Kenny Davenport told 12News that the body, later identified as White, was recovered by the Silsbee Volunteer Fire Department.

A friend of the family told 12News that White was swimming in the river when he was swept under by currents.
