Soldier welcomed home

Posted:

The phrase "welcome home soldier" took on a whole new meaning Wednesday afternoon. Sgt. Josh Yarbrough and his family Wednesday were literally welcomed into a brand new home all thanks to an organization dedicated to helping those who have fought to defend our freedom.

Helpingahero.org is a non-profit organization that builds handicap accessible homes for disabled veterans. The organization had the opportunity to build a handicap accessible home for Sgt. Josh Yarbrough and his family. The organization was able to move the family into its new home Wednesday said Meredith Iler, chairman of helpingahero.org.

Country music singer Lee Greenwood is also a big supporter of the organization. He was in Port Neches Wednesday to perform his signature song, "God Bless the U.S.A."

"We had like five, six hundred people here today," said Greenwood,

"(They ) understand that this one soldier represents the entire community, the entire city, the state, and the country for their sacrifice and I'm just proud I can help," he said.

Wednesday's dedication is just one of 40 homes that will be presented in 2014. In fact six more families will receive a new home over the next 30 days.

For Josh's wife Rachael Yarbrough, this is the beginning of a brand new life.

"We plan on growing up, us growing old and having grandchildren or something," said Rachael Yarbrough.
