Major accident in Hardin County

A man who said he fell asleep at the wheel was taken by air ambulance to the hospital following a one-vehicle accident on Highway 105 in Saratoga Wednesday.

The accident happened shortly before noon just east of West Hardin High School.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Nathan Pierce told 12News that Herbert Davis, 33, of Conroe, was driving his Ford pickup westbound on highway 105 heading home after working all night.  Trooper Pierce said Davis told emergency workers that he fell asleep at the wheel.  His truck went across the opposing lane without hitting any other vehicles.  It continued across the highway and hit a tree.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Trooper Pierce said Davis was taken by air ambulance to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.  It is believed that his injuries are not life threatening.

Traffic on 105 was blocked for just under two hours while emergency crews worked the accident.
