Authorities believe attacks on elderly in Nederland and Little C - 12 News KBMT and K-JAC. News, Weather and Sports for SE Texas

Authorities believe attacks on elderly in Nederland and Little Cypress are connected

A Nederland police spokesperson said an 81-year-old man who was getting out of his car in his own garage was confronted by a robber.  The spokesperson said the victim's face was severely beaten and the robber ran away with the man's money.

Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush believes the attack in Nederland might have been committed by the same man who attacked an elderly man in Little Cypress last Thursday.

The Nederland attack happened around 10 a.m. Friday in the 700 block of South Fourth Street.  This is off of Avenue H.

He told us, "There are a great deal of similarities in this case that lead us to believe it's one and the same person."

Some neighbors in the Nederland neighborhood where the attack happened said they are shocked by the attack.  One neighbor told us nothing like this had ever happened there.  She did not want to be identified.

She told us, "We're really aware of our surroundings now even more."

Both victims were struck in the face during the robbery, and both are recovering in the hospital.

No arrests have been made, but Chief Bush told us, "We have some information that gives us a good vehicle description and a suspect description and we're working on that."

Chief Bush hopes to release more of that information Tuesday.

As for now, we've  been told the robber was driving what appeared to be a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee.

Anyone with information is asked to call 409-722-4965.
