LU men's basketball team may be subject to sanctions next week

The Lamar University basketball team will find out next Wednesday if it will face sanctions from the NCAA.  LU Athletic Director Jason Henderson is withholding comment until an official NCAA report is released on the basketball teams Academic Progress Rate score.

Early reports suggest the team failed to meet the minimum score of a 930. The minimum score is the equivalent of a 50 percent graduation rate.

If the Cardinals are placed on probation they will not be eligible to play in the post season next season. The president of the Cardinal Club, Rich Courville, said he is not aware of possible sanctions or the teams APR.

"We don't want any athlete to leave Lamar without an education. That's first and foremost. We want these kids to be well educated when they leave lamar university," Courville said.
