Bridge City Police identify victim in fatal auto-pedestrian accident

BRIDGE CITY - A spokesperson for the Bridge City Police Department has released the identity of a person killed in an auto-pedestrian accident on Highway 87 Wednesday morning.

The victim is identified as Brandy Lee Purkey, 29, of Port Arthur.

The accident happened shortly before 3 a.m.

The police spokesperson said officers were called to an area of Highway 87 between the LaQuinta Inn and the Rainbow Bridge.  When they arrived they found Purkey unresponsive.  The spokesperson said the investigation showed that Purkey walked into the westbound lane of traffic and was struck by a Dodge van and a Ford pickup.

Purkey was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange County Precinct Three Justice of the Peace Judge Janice Menard.

An autopsy has been ordered.

The spokesperson said the Bridge City Police Department was assisted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Orange County Sheriff's Office, Bridge City Fire Department, McLewis Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance Service.
