Update: Kirbyville standoff ends peacefully

KIRBYVILLE - Kirbyville police and Jasper County Sheriff's deputies were involved in a standoff with an armed man Tuesday afternoon.

A police spokesperson told 12News that an armed man refused to come out of a house on Lelia Street in Kirbyville.

The one hour standoff followed reports that an armed, 50-year-old man had threatened to harm himself.

As a precaution, Kirbyville police, Jasper County deputies, and Department of Public Safety troopers converged on the home at the intersection of Lelia Street and Harris.

After negotiations, police said it was determined that the suspect was not a threat, and seemed surprised at the mobilization of a SWAT team.

The man was not taken into custody, and no one was injured.
