Driver arrested for Intoxication Assault following wreck that injured 2-year-old

PORT ARTHUR - A spokesperson for the Port Arthur Police Department said Saturday that a driver is facing intoxication assault charges following a collision that happened Friday in the 4000 block of Memorial Boulevard.

The accident happened around 9 p.m. The spokesperson said a car was going southbound on Memorial Boulevard and stopped at a red light at the intersection with 39th Street.  The car was hit from behind by a pickup.

A two-year-old girl who was in the car suffered head trauma as a result of the collision and was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. From there the the child was taken to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.  As of Saturday the child is listed stable condition. 

The driver of the vehicle the child was in was treated at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

Officers arrested the driver of the pickup shortly after the collision.
