RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -Richmond Police say they are medically evaluating a teen in connection to Thursday's assault and homicide involving two young children. Sources say the teen is being evaluated at Tuckers Psychiatric Clinic in Richmond.

Police now have a warrant for the suspect in the crime.

Family members and friends say the girl and her brother were playing on the train tracks in the 200 block of Brandon Road, not far from their home. Police say a suspect then sexually assaulted the girl, who sources say is 12-years-old. When her brother tried to intervene, sources say the suspect beat the 9-year-old to death with a brick.

Initially, the suspect was described as a white male with scraggly facial hair. Now police say the suspect, a teenage black male, threatened the victim into giving false information. No other details have been released at this time.
