UPDATE: Bond set in deadly Tyler County shooting

Bond for a man deputies say shot and killed his estranged wife has been set at $500,000.

On April 30, a dispatcher with the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office got a call from a man who said his son had just shot a neighbor at a home off Road 12 in the White-Tail Ridge community.  This is in the northwest part of Tyler County.

Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford told 12News another 911 caller, identified as David Weatherspoon, told a dispatcher that he had just shot his wife.

When deputies arrived at the house they saw Weatherspoon in the front yard of the house.  They said he had blood on his hands.

According to a sheriff’s office spokesperson, Weatherspoon complied with deputies, and he lead them to the back of the house where they found the body of Tammy Weatherspoon in the front seat of a pickup.

Tammy Weatherspoon was pronounced dead by Tyler County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Judith Haney.  Judge Haney has ordered an autopsy that was conducted at the Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Jefferson County.

Authorities the day of the shooting told 12News that the couple was still married, but living apart.

The sheriff’s office spokesperson said David Weatherspoon’s account of what happened before and after the shooting was not consistent with the crime scene.

Investigators from the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Texas Rangers spent over 15 hours processing the crime scene.

The preliminary autopsy report shows that Tammy Weatherspoon died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Tyler County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Trisher Ford issued an arrest warrant for David Weatherspoon.  He was taken into custody Thursday night without incident.

David Weatherspoon was booked into the Tyler County Justice Center
