Neighbors say criminals are targeting their neighborhood in the avenues

A Beaumont Police spokesperson said there have been five burglaries since January 1 within a four block radius of the 2900 block of Avenue E. And within the past year, the spokesperson said there have been nine total. But residents of that neighborhood say there has been much more.

Sonya Porche's car was burglarized sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. She says she found her car ransacked after she woke up Wednesday morning.

Other neighbors in the area said they have also been targeted. One street over on Emile street, Javier Navarette said his daughter was the only person home when two men broke into the house in an apparent home invasion. Navarette said his daughter was held at gunpoint while two men robbed their home.

Neighbors said the crime is happening during daylight hours when families are away at school and work. Porche said she is talking to neighbors and hopes to start a neighborhood crime watch with the help of the police department.
