Silsbee woman critically injured in two-car collision

A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety told 12News that a Silsbee woman was critically injured in an accident Wednesday morning.

The collision happened around 8:15 a.m.on FM 92 near Cansler Road in Hardin County.

DPS Trooper Stephanie Davis said the driver of a Mitsubishi 2-door vehicle was stopped northbound on FM 92 waiting to make a left turn onto Cansler Road when she was struck from behind by a Ford truck.  According to the driver of the Ford, he was reaching for his cell phone when he struck the vehicle in front of him.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Jami Kelly, 30, of Silsbee, was taken by medical helicopter to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.  She is currently listed in critical condition. 

The driver of the Ford, Lloyd Tidwell, 42, of Silsbee, was not injured in the collision. 

Tidwell was cited for Failure to Control Speed and several other traffic violations.

This accident is still under investigation.
