Man wants 'murder' tattoo removed before murder trial

A Barton County, Kansas man who is charged with first degree murder is asking to have a large tattoo that says "murder" removed from his neck before his trial.

Jeffrey Chapman has the word spelled backwards across his neck according to KWCH television in Kansas.  His attorney, Kurt Kerns, has filed a motion to allow a tattoo artist to remove or cover up the word before the trial.

Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said tattooing and tattoo removal is illegal in jail.

The trial is scheduled to begin April 28.

The defense has also asked for a change of venue for the trial.
