Lockdown lifted at Beaumont school campuses, police investigate nearby shooting

Three Beaumont school campuses were placed on lockdown as police began investigating a Wednesday afternoon shooting.

The lockdowns at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, Fletcher Elementary and Pathways Learning Center in Beaumont were put in place as a precaution after police received a call from a man at the Oriental Food Market located at 1305 Franklin Street saying a shooting had happened nearby.  This is at the intersection with Orange Street.

When officers arrived they found the victim on Orange Street.  He had been shot twice, once in the buttocks and once in the thigh.

Officers are currently looking for the gunman.

A spokesperson for the Beaumont Police Department issued the following news release:

BEAUMONT POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE

On Wednesday 04/23/14 at approximately 12:04pm Beaumont Police officers responded to the 1100 block of Ave A,  in reference to a victim of a shooting. Upon arrival, Officers detained several people at a residence.  A male victim was later located a block away in the 1200 block of Orange st. with a wound to the buttocks. The wounded man was transported to St Elizabeth Hospital by Beaumont EMS. Detectives are speaking to witnesses and conducting a thorough  investigation at this time.

No names are released at this time. Victims condition is unknown at this time.
