Newton elementary student attacked by adult

A Newton elementary student was punched by an adult Thursday morning.  The man then ran from the campus after the attack, according to a statement issued by the superintendent.

The incident happened in a hall between classes.

The statement from Superintendent Michelle Barrow says the adult male attacker persuaded the student to open a locked exterior door.  Once the door was opened, the adult punched the student in the stomach and ran from the campus.

"The student is not harmed.  Law enforcement is investigating, " said Superintendent Barrow.

In order to maintain security on campus, no visitors were allowed on campus the remainder of the day.
