ORANGE COUNTY -

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is asking for your help finding a man wanted in a cold case aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Sheriff's Office Cpl. Darrin Mooney spoke with 12News by phone Tuesday.  He said Deputies are looking for Darrell Curtis Lacouture, 73, of Orange.  Mooney said Lacouture has relatives in the area and could be in or near Orange County.

In 1997, a young relative of Lacouture made an outcry to her mother saying he "touched her" and pointed to her vaginal area. Lacouture was confronted by the daughter-in-law, but he denied doing anything. Lacouture left the residence as the mother called 911.

Deputies arrived and spoke to the mother in reference to the offense. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment and then to the Garth House for an interview. During the interview the investigator said the child appeared to be very traumatized.

Reports also state during this investigation several other female family members stated they were sexually abused by Lacouture when they were children, but were scared to report it because he said, "don't tell or you will be in trouble." He is also said to have threatened to kill them.

Lacouture agreed to be interviewed by investigators but he failed to show. On October 16, 1997 a warrant was issued for Lacouture for aggravated sexual assault of a child. Since that time law enforcement has been unable to locate him and now is asking for the public's help for any information on his whereabouts.
