BISD Supt. invites community to "Let's Talk" forum

The Beaumont Independent School District Superintendent says "Let's Talk."

Dr. Timothy Chargois has a message on the BISD web page inviting the community to a forum that will be held 7 p.m. Monday in the board room of the administration building.

The forum is just days after two more FBI raids connected to BISD. The homes of Purchasing Director Naomi Lawrence-Lee and former West Brook Booster Club President Bo Kelley were raided Friday.

Lee has been on paid-leave from the district since January. BISD sources said Lee did not pay roughly $19,000 to a major vendor despite being paid extra to cover that bill.

Kelley admitted in February that he took almost $30,000 of booster club money before returning some of it to its proper account.

Interim West Brook Booster Club President Joey Hilliard believes Kelley took at least $10,000 more than first suspected.

Neither Kelley nor Lee have been charged with a crime.

The forum also comes days after Chargois and the Board of Trustees met with Education Commissioner Michael Williams who must decide if he feels it is appropriate for a take takeover of the district which has been recommended by the Texas Education Agency.
