BEAUMONT -

Beaumont police say they do not believe a shooting that left a woman dead and sent another person to the hospital is the result of a random act or road rage incident and detectives are encouraging anyone to call with information that could shed light on the case.

The shooting happened around 4:37 a.m. Thursday.  Family members identified the woman who died as Dominique Reed, 21, of Beaumont.

Beaumont Police Department Sgt. Rob Flores said a female called 911 following a minor traffic accident.  The woman told a dispatcher that a man involved in the accident was brandishing a rifle. The caller hung up and the 911 operator phoned her back.  The caller said that the man had just shot her friend.

Officers converged on the area and found the female caller. She was uninjured. The female shooting victim died at the scene.

Officers also found a second shooting victim at the scene. According to the witness, the suspect also shot a person who had stopped to help at the accident scene.  Beaumont EMS took him to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth for his gunshot wound. ER personnel admitted him.  Sgt. Flores told 12News on Friday that at last report this victim was listed in stable condition.

Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic male, short and heavy-set, with an eye abnormality they described as "cross-eyed." They last saw him fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. He was driving a dark colored, older model pickup truck. He was armed with a rifle.

Sgt. Flores said officers consider the suspect armed and dangerous and asks anyone who has information about his identity to call Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS to leave an anonymous tip.
