Traffic study proposed to improve fair experience

Posted: Updated:

Jefferson County Commissioner Bo Alfred says he will pitch an idea to the Texas Department of Transportation to improve traffic congestion at Ford Park.

Alfred is happy about Saturday's amazing turnout at the South Texas State Fair but proposes changes so fair goers can get into the park without as many delays.
Saturday's nice weather drew upwards of 30,000 visitors to the fair.

Alfred may team up with the Young Men's Business League, which is supporting the plan, to do a traffic study and possibly increase the number of lanes of traffic into the park.

TXDOT says there is actually a project already in the works to move major drive underneath I-10.

This would allow for a U-turn underneath the interstate providing a smoother turnaround to Ford Park but the project is awaiting funding.
