A Beaumont Police Department spokesperson told 12News the victim in a Friday-morning shooting is a 13-year-old who received a superficial laceration to the left side of his face.
Around 4:30 a.m. the 911 dispatch center received a call from a female inside a house located at 4750 Carnegie Avenue. The female caller said someone outside the house fired several shots into the home. One of the shots struck the 13-year-old who was sleeping in a back bedroom.
Beaumont EMS took the teen to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth where doctors treated him and released him to his mother.
Amelia Wade lives just a few yards from the victim's home, she said she heard at least ten gun shots this morning. She said she's lived inthe neighborhood for two years andhasn't heard of any shootings before and she isn't happy that her threedaughters are forced to live in fear.
"They were inshock, especially my daughter that goes to school with him," Wade said. "She was telling mehe's quiet he doesn't mess with anyone and he kinda stays to himself."
Sgt. Rob Flores, Jr. with the Beaumont Police Department said the victim'sfamily gave no reason as to why this may have happened.
"Typically wecan tie it back to something, but this seems to be totally random," Flores said.
Police determined that a green or possibly blue hatchback or crossover type vehicle was seen in the neighborhood just prior to the shooting.
Detectives are working to determine if that vehicle is related to the shooting.
