Historical church building in Orange suffers fire damage

Posted: Updated:

Investigators with the Orange Fire Department are looking into the cause of a fire that damaged an historical building in downtown Orange.

Firefighters arrived at the Center for Stark Cultural Venues on Green Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Police blocked off a portion of Green Avenue while firefighters battled the blaze.

There was no one inside the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported.

While the building has not been ruled a total loss, water damage adds to the minor damage caused by the fire.

The building has been undergoing renovations.

The Nelda C. and H. J. Lutcher Stark foundation has owned the property since purchasing the building from the First Baptist Church of Orange in May of 2013.
