H-F I.S.D. School Board tours damaged elementary ahead of parent meeting

Posted: Updated:

The Hamshire-Fannett Independent School District will host a parent meeting Tuesday night to release information about its plans to move forward after losing a portion of the elementary school in a fire.

Elementary students have been out of school since a fire on March 18 destroyed eight classrooms, the auditorium and some front offices.

Monday the school board of trustees were given a tour of the damaged school. 12News was allowed exclusive access to the damage areas of the school.
Superintendent Pamela Brown said ceiling tiles in other hallways of the school have been changed or clean.  The district is also awaiting results from air quality tests following concerns over the level of asbestos inside the school.

The parent meeting will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the high school gym.

A cause for the fire is still under investigation.
