UPDATE: Beaumont man gets 35 years in 2012 stabbing death

A Beaumont man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for a March 2012 stabbing death.

The guilty verdict, which was reached late Monday morning, was handed down to Jaylan Williams in the death of April Michelle Danna, 27, of Orange.

Williams hit a table when the verdict was read in court.  Families on both sides got teary eyed after hearing the guilty verdict.

According to 12News file stories, Danna was found bleeding from multiple stab wounds on March 30, 2012 in the 1000 block of Washington Boulevard.  She was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont where she died.

Williams and the victim had been seen arguing earlier in the day.

Williams was arrested the day after Danna was killed on a charge of assault of a peace officer.  A Beaumont Police Department spokesperson said Williams assaulted an officer during questioning about the murder. He was served a murder warrant while in jail on the assault charge.

Williams is also a registered sex offender who pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child in Fort Bend County in 2007.
