Man bonds out after narcotics arrest

A Vidor man has been released from jail on $5,000 bond following his arrest on a drug charge Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff's Office said around 2 a.m. Sunday  an Orange County Sheriff's Deputy was on patrol in the area of Four Oaks Ranch Road in Vidor.  The Deputy said he noticed a man and woman inside a parked vehicle in the 500 block of Four Oaks Ranch Road.

When the Deputy approached the vehicle, he said he noticed the two shuffling around inside.  It appeared to the Deputy that they were trying to hide something in the front floorboard or under the seats.

When the Deputy walked up to the vehicle, he said he noticed a small plastic baggie, which is commonly used to contain narcotics, in plain view on the console.  The Deputy said he could also smell a strong odor of what smelled like a chemical burning.  When the man who was in the driver's seat was asked to step out of the vehicle, the Deputy said he saw him drop a plastic baggie that contained a crystal like substance, recognized by the Deputy to be methamphetamine.

The driver, Darryl Wayne Bergeron, 31, was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance.  The female occupant was not arrested.

Bergeron was booked into the Orange County jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance, a 3rd Degree Felony.

Bergeron was arraigned on Sunday, March 23, 2014 and his bond was set at $5,000.  Bergeron was able to bond out of jail and is no longer in custody.

Sheriff Keith Merritt said the Orange County Sheriff's Office will continue to aggressively seek out and arrest those who use and sell illegal drugs in our community.
