Former JP candidate claims she was wrongly fired from county job

Jefferson County Commissioner Michael Sinegal is responding to one of his employee's claims that she was asked to resign.

Dawn Polk has been working as the administrative assistant to Sinegal for the past 18 years. She says she was asked to resign, effective Friday, March 21.

She says the reason for her dismissal was because she ran for Justice of the Peace and then requested a recount when she didn't win.

Polk said, "I challenged the county, I challenged the system, and then the boss came in."

Commissioner Sinegal says, "What Ms. Polk is alleging is totally false. It was performance related. She chose to resign. The HR department advised me on what to do to protect taxpayers' money."
