Police arrest woman they say helped murder suspect on the run

Posted: Updated:

A Port Arthur woman is out on bond after her arrest on charge that she tried to help a murder suspect.

Beaumont police arrested 24-year-old Jornae Johnson Wednesday and charged her with hindering apprehension.

Sources close to the investigation say Johnson helped 26-year-old Joe Frederick Hawkins after police say he fatally shot his three siblings, Darrell, Anthony and Danielle Hawkins.

The homicides took place Sunday afternoon outside the home of Hawkins' mother.  Police say he fled the scene, and he was not located until Monday afternoon.

Police arrested him at the Southwinds Inn in Groves.  Hawkins is currently in the Jefferson County Jail on a $1 million bond for aggravated assault, and capital murder charges are pending.

Sources tell us Johnson paid for Hawkins' hotel room and might have taken him clothes.

She was released on a $100,000 bond  from the Jefferson County Jail, shortly after her arrest Wednesday.

According to the Texas Penal code, a person is guilty of hindering apprehension, if they harbor, conceal, provide with a means of avoiding arrest or effecting escape, or warned of discovery or apprehension someone who's charged with a crime.
