UPDATE: Triple murder suspect held on aggravated assault charge; held on $1 million bond

Posted: Updated:

Port Arthur police say the man suspected in the killing of three siblings Sunday has been arrested at a hotel in Groves.

Beaumont police say Joe Frederick Hawkins, 26, of Beaumont shot and killed two brothers and a sister Sunday afternoon during a domestic disturbance in the 3700 block of South 4th Street. Another woman was shot and is listed in stable condition.

Port Arthur Police Major Raymond Clark says Hawkins was arrested without incident at the Southwind Inn in Groves on Highway 73. He says the investigation led both Beaumont Police and Port Arthur police to the hotel. Also assisting in the arrest was Groves PD and Beaumont SWAT.

Beaumont Police Sgt. Rob Flores tells 12News Joe Hawkins is being held on an aggravated assault charge for the woman who was shot and survived. His bond is set at $1 million and Flores says investigators are preparing 3 capital murder warrants.

Police Monday released the names of the three killed. The victims are identified as Anthony Ray Hawkins, 33, Reshowna Hawkins, 30 and Darrel Hawkins, 34. Judge Ransom Jones has ordered autopsies that are being performed today.

Family members tell us Anthony had six children, Reshowna also had six children and Darrel had two.

Family members tell 12News Joe Hawkins called his mother Monday morning to say he loved her and that he wasn't going to hurt her Sunday when she witnessed the shooting. They say he would not tell them where he was.

The 21-year-old female who suffered multiple gunshot wounds is in stable condition.
When police arrived on scene, they found four gunshot victims in the yard of the home.

Police say Anthony and Reshowna were dead at the scene.

Police say Darrel was transported to St. Elizabeth where he eventually died.

Police say after interviewing witnesses, they believe the shooting was a disturbance between family members.

Family members tell 12News that mother of the victims was home at the time but ran to a nearby family members house when the shooting happened. They say the victims leave behind children.

Police say Hawkins was last seen driving a silver 2002 or 2003 Buick Century with Texas license plates DS4P770. The car has dark tinted windows and a missing rear passenger-side hubcap.
