Hilliard Named Honorable Mention All-SLC
Junior guard recognized as one of the league's top newcomers

FRISCO, Texas – Junior Nimrod Hilliard has been named honorable mention All-Southland Conference as voted on by the league head coaches and media relations directors announced league officials Monday morning.

"In terms of my short time with the team, Nimrod really picked up what we were trying to do on the floor," said interim head coach Tic Price. "He had the right attitude and became our leader on the floor. It is always special to be recognized by the league in your first season. His future is very bright and we are very excited for him."

A transfer from Jacksonville College, Hilliard had a huge impact for Lamar from the moment he stepped on campus. Hilliard led the team, and finished 13th in the Southland averaging 14.1 points per game. He hit double figures 27 times as a junior, including four 20-point outings. Hilliard's career high came at Northwestern State where he poured in 29 points against the Demons.

Hilliard was also key in helping his teammates get involved in the offense. The Madison, Wis. native, led the team and finished third in the Southland in assists (4.9 apg), and was fourth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio.

"That is a special thing about Nimrod," said Price. "He not only has the ability to score, but he is great about finding the open man and getting his teammates involved in the scoring. He really has gained a feel for what needs to be done on the court, and now he is making sure that it gets done. I believe that his best basketball is still ahead of him."

Hilliard finished the season with two double-doubles, both coming by way of points and assists. His first double-double was a 17-point, 14-assist effort against Arkansas State. He recorded his other in the final week of the season scoring 19 and dishing out 11 assists against New Orleans.
