LULAC to ask for superintendent's resignation

Posted: Updated:

The Beaumont chapter of a Hispanic organization plans to ask Beaumont I.S.D.'s Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chargois to step down.

The League of United Latin American Citizens is calling for change in the district and believe it starts at the top.

The organization says the Hispanic community has continuously been ignored since Dr. Chargois has been at the helm.

Chapter President Roberto Flores says the Texas Education Agency's preliminary investigative report released last week only supports the Hispanic community's concerns.

The report was very critical of Chargois, stating that he failed to manage the day-to-day operations dealing with finances, purchasing and school records.

Flores says LULAC's biggest concern is the effect of Dr. Chargois' leadership is having on the children and their education.

LULAC wants a state conservator to come in and right the wrongs in the district. 12News has not been able to reach Dr. Chargois for his take on the request.  The district's public information officer was not available for comment on this story.

LULAC will request the resignation during a press conference in front of the administration building Wednesday at 1 p.m.
