364 barrels of crude oil spill in Port Neches

Posted: Updated:

A spokesperson for Shell told 12News that a crude oil pipeline was punctured Thursday on the company's property located near the corner of HWY 366 and 136.

As a result, approximately 364 barrels of crude oil was released in the vicinity.

Shell Pipeline immediately shut down and isolated the line following the incident. Emergency crews and first responders have been deployed and are on the scene using equipment including absorbent booms to contain the crude.

Spokesperson Anne Knisely said although the pipeline is on Huntsman property, the pipeline belongs to Motiva.

Knisely said there are no injuries and there is no call for a shelter in place.

Knisely said Huntsman has no involvement in the management of the situation other than escorting Shell workers to the site.
