Police say man pulled gun on woman, ran when she called for her husband

Port Arthur police are investigating what they say appears to be a burglary that turned violent when a homeowner returned.

A woman had just dropped off her kids and went back to her house in the 2900 block of 19th Street in Port Arthur.  As she arrived at the house, a man came from around the back of the home and pulled out a gun. The woman screamed for her husband and the burglar began to run.

Although authorities said the gunman did not "state an intent," based on his actions, they said it's considered a burglary.

"It's when somebody tries to enter someone's home with the intent to commit a felony or a theft," Officer Herschel Whiting said. "We can certainly say in this instance he actually made it a foot inside the doorway, so we call this a burglary."

Authorities said they reviewed security cameras from a nearby car dealership, but the suspect was not caught on tape.

The suspect is described as a White or Hispanic male wearing a ski mask. He is around 200 lbs. He was last seen running east on 19th Street.

Officers searched the area using a K-9.

This is a developing story.  Check back for updates.
