Southeast Texans gear up for another round of winter weather

Posted: Updated:

Spring Break is just around the corner for many Southeast Texas schools, but Old Man Winter is not ready to leave the area just yet.

For the fourth time this season, our area will be hit with a winter blast that could include freezing rain and sleet.

The Texas Department of Transportation is set to make sure roadways are safe.  TxDOT public information officer Sarah Dupre says crews will begin monitoring the roads starting at 3:00 Tuesday morning.

Of top concern are bridges and overpasses, and when temperatures drop below freezing and the freezing rain starts, they plan to spread the material that makes the water harder to freeze on the road surfaces.

Dupre says they are fully stocked with that material.  She advises Southeast Texans not be on the road if they don't have to.

She says, "If they have to get out, go slow, use some extra caution, use extra room between you and the other driver, and just be a little more safe than you usually are."
