PORT ARTHUR -

Port Arthur police say a man crashed a stolen car into another vehicle Friday night, then stole the car he crashed into before stealing two more cars later in the night.

The man has not been identified, but police say he was later taken into custody by authorities in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Police say the man crashed a car reported stolen out of Harris County into the back of a vehicle carrying two women near the intersection of 25th Street and Memorial Blvd around 8 p.m. Friday. When the driver of the vehicle he crashed into got out to look at the damage, police say the suspect assaulted her then jumped into her vehicle. There was a passenger still inside, but police say she managed to get out before the man drove off. No serious injuries were reported.

Police say the victim's car was found in Liberty County, where the man then stole another car.

Police say he repeated the process by leaving that car in Silsbee, before stealing a fourth vehicle. That vehicle was found in a hospital parking lot in Lafayette, Louisiana where the man stopped for medical treatment. He was then taken into custody by Lafayette authorities.

It is unknown why the man was in the area last night, as police say it is not believed that he has any ties to the Golden Triangle

No names or vehicle descriptions have been released at this time.
