Jasper Co. sheriff's captain fired

A captain with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office was fired Friday.
Sheriff Mitchell Newman says he let Captain Bob Walker go because walker failed to properly store a recovered stolen gun into the evidence room.

The owner of the gun has told 12News that walker kept the firearm.

She accuses Walker of taking the gun to get repaired and then giving it to his son as a gift.

In addition to losing his job,  Walker could also face criminal charges. Sheriff Newman has given the case to the Texas Rangers for investigation.
