BEAUMONT -

Beaumont police arrested a man they say went on an early-morning auto burglary spree Tuesday.

Beaumont Police Department spokesperson Officer Carol Riley said around 3:30 a.m. officers were called to the 2200 block of Broadway where a man was breaking into cars.

When officers arrived they said they heard someone breaking into a car. When they went to investigate, a man took off running and got into a maroon Chevrolet Suburban that was parked at 2215 Calder. Officers pursued the suspect. The suspect fled down Calder to 11th Street then turned back East on Calder.

Officers were able to spike the vehicles tires in the 2300 block of Calder.

The driver turned south on 4th Street and then west on South. He then stopped on South at 5th and fled on foot. He was caught and arrested at 5th and South.

The suspect is identified by police as Joseph Lee Martin, 34, of Beaumont.

Three auto burglaries were found in the area. The owners were notified. All three have file charges.

Martin was taken to Jefferson County Jail and booked in on 3 counts of felony auto burglary due to his previous convictions. He is also charged with evading in motor vehicle and evading on foot.

There was additional property located, but police do not yet know from where it was stolen
