Beaumont officer, driver of Camaro injured in 2-car accident


A Beaumont police officer and the driver of a Camaro were both hurt in a 2-car accident Sunday morning.

Beaumont officer Carol Riley told 12News the accident happened at about 2 a.m. at the corner of Jim Gilligan Way and MLK Parkway. 

The officer was headed south on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway while responding to report of a fight at the Getaway located at 5750 MLK.  The driver of a black 2012 Camaro, only identified as a 24-year-old, was turning onto MLK from Jim Gilligan Way as the officer was entering the intersection.  The patrol car struck the Camero.

She said the driver of the Camaro and the officer were taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont where both were reported as having non-life threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
