FBI, Homeland Security raid offices of DETCOG in Jasper

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security and the Internal Revenue Service are at the offices of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) building in downtown Jasper.  Agents are also raiding the home of DETCOG's long-time executive director Walter Diggles, and the offices of Lighthouse Church where Diggles is a minister.

Agents have been at the three locations since around 9 a.m.

DETCOG is the distribution point for federal grants and other government funding such as social services for the elderly. The organization functions similar to the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission.  DETCOG serves 12 counties.

Officials have not yet said what agents are seeking, but four sources close to the investigation say at least 20 agents are conducting interviews and executing search warrants.

12News has a crew in Jasper and will have more on this story later in the day.
