Arrest warrant issued for former BISD instructor charged with injury to a child

Posted: Updated:

An arrest warrant has been issued for a former Beaumont Independent School District instructor.

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Michael Fisher, 24, this week, on a felony charge of injury to a child.

Fisher is accused of punching and knocking out seventh grader Reginald Wells on Nov. 8 at Willie Ray Smith Middle School.

Reginald's mother, Adrianne Wells, said a teacher witnessed the attack and that Fisher was escorted off campus and fired. Wells first heard of the arrest warrant from 12News on Saturday.

"I was surprised, happy, you know I just want justice to be served, and I just couldn't understand why it was taking so long," Adrianne Wells told 12News in an exclusive interview Saturday.

Mrs. Wells filed charges with BISD police.  She also transferred her son, who is now 13, to Odom Academy.

"A lot of kids were saying that he got the cool teacher fired, and I just didn't want to put him back in that situation," she said.

The warrant for Fisher was issued Friday, along with a $25,000 bond, however he remains at large.

The incident was captured on school surveillance video.
