Southeast Texans making plans for super supper

Posted: Updated:

On Super Bowl Sunday, many of us put bowls, plates and cups to good use.

It's become a day to pig out and order out, with roughly  48 million Americans getting take-out food from restaurants.

The day is second only to Thanksgiving as the holiday, where the most calories are consumed.

But instead of turkey and dressing, pizza and wings are the food of choice.

Domino's has both, and the general manager of the franchise on College Street in Beaumont is getting ready for what's considered to be the busiest day of the year for pizza places.

Rick Carrizales says he has not had a day off since last week.  Not only does preparing for Super Bowl sales have him busy, so has the icy weather.  Carrizales says it's been non-stop business.

Nationwide, Domino's estimates it will deliver 11 million pieces of pizza.

Carrizales says his store alone will sell 500 pizzas game day.

As for chicken wings, it's estimated Americans will eat 100 million pounds of chicken wings.  Carrizales says his Domino's will sell 1,000 wings during the first half of the game alone.

He encourages customers to call at least one hour ahead.  Already people have been placing orders since last Monday.
