Two Port Arthur elementary students struck by SUV while walking to school

Two Port Arthur elementary students were hit by an SUV as they walked to school Thursday morning. Both received what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

According to a news release from the Port Arthur Police Department the accident happened at 7:47 a.m. near Booker T. Washington Elementary School located at 1300 Freeman Avenue.

The two children were crossing the roadway when they were struck by an SUV.

The driver of the SUV was driving the wrong way on a one-way street. She told police she had the sun in her eyes and did not see the children.

One of the children was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. The other child was taken to Christus Hospital St. Mary in Port Arthur.

The driver received multiple citations.
