Mother Nature throws Southeast Texas parents a curveball

Posted: Updated:

With many Southeast Texas school districts going into their second day with no classes, families are now just working to all get along during this unforeseen time together.

Kellie Fowler is one of those parents.  She's a Beaumont mom with six kids.

But she says Mother Nature  is not going to mess with her daily schedule.

For Fowler a winter blast is not the perfect storm, but raising six kids, ranging from pre-K to high school ages, can be.

She says while they did have pajama and video game playing time, she's also making sure kids accomplish delayed family projects and chores.

For example, Fowler had the kids clean out the garage to make room to park their car, and also put up Christmas decorations that are still up, but to do that, they had to clear the attic.

And although having the entire family stuck inside a home together all day can cause some stress, Fowler advises families to make the most of it and enjoy each other's company.

School districts are required to build two bad weather makeup days into their calendar to handle days like Tuesday and Wednesday.

They have to use those two days and then if they go over two days, make other arrangements such as use a holiday to make up the day or have school on a Saturday.
