Beaumont Emergency Operations Center staying busy during cold snap

Posted: Updated:

Keeping the city running as smoothly as possible on an extreme weather day like Tuesday is no easy task, and it takes a team effort.

When the elements take a turn for the worse, the Beaumont Emergency Operations Center downtown kicks into high gear, and Tuesday we got a rare look inside.

Men and women from several different agencies work around the clock, monitoring the weather using Doppler radar and surveillance cameras placed around the city.

"We're just trying to make sure we're keeping up with where all the hazards are throughout the city, and this is where we communicate together," said Beaumont Police spokesperson Carol Riley.

An interactive map of Beaumont is used to make sure everyone's on the same page when coordinating responses to problem areas, and a fluid, open line of communication between the command center, field officers, and dispatch operators is maintained at all times. Press releases and Facebook posts are updated regularly.
"Everything we can to keep up to the minute information out so people know to stay at home and off the roads," Riley said.

It's a busy time for the folks at the E.O.C. They know they have to be on their A-game, because they also know the safety of their citizens is no game.
