SETX thaws quickly thanks to drastic change in temperatures

Posted: Updated:

Southeast Texans got to see something Saturday most never saw on Friday... the sun.

Just one day after freezing temperatures crippled busy roadways and closed bridges, the ice melted away, thanks to about a 30 degree increase in temperature.

"So what happened was we got this Canadian air that came all the way to the gulf coast, but since we're on the southern edge of this and it just kind of clipped by the area as it moved to the east, we're much warmer today," 12News Meteorologist David Wolter explained Saturday.

The Texas Department of Transportation reported that all major roadways and bridges were reopened by early Saturday afternoon.

"Our crews didn't really stop working until about 1:00 today. We started 24-hour operations Thursday morning and we had been really going ever since," said TxDOT spokesperson Sarah Dupre.

While Saturday offered some much needed relief, don't get too comfortable, forecasts show very cold temperatures may be back early next week.
