Port Arthur I.S.D. to consider firing longtime teacher

The Port Arthur Independent School District will consider firing a veteran Port Arthur Educator when the school board meets on Thursday.  Lee Elementary School teacher Ruby Gunner is currently suspended with pay.

The 40-year veteran educator was arrested last May after an 11-year-old student says Gunner choked him.  Gunner claims she was defending herself after the student pushed her and kicked her in the stomach.

Gunner was scheduled to go to trial in Beaumont on Tuesday on a charge of injury to a child which is a third degree felony.  The trial was postponed because a key witness went into labor.
