Vidor to open 2014 in Florida

Posted: Updated:

It's never too early to talk about high school football. Especially in Southeast Texas.
Texashsfootball.com is reporting Vidor will open up the 2014 season in Pensacola, Florida against Escambia High School.
This afternoon head coach Jeff Matthews confirmed to me that it is a two-year contract between the schools with the Gators making a return trip to Vidor in 2015.
Florida is known for their high school football just like Texas. Escambia, which finished (7-4) last year, has a couple of famous former players.
Hall of Fame Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith and current Indianapolis Colts running back Trent Richardson. In fact the field at Escambia is actually named after Emmitt Smith.
The Gators like to run the ball.  In a 70-54 win over Pensacola's Rutherford High School Escambia rushed for 700 yards.
